History of Central Java

Established as a province of Central Java since the days of the Dutch East Indies. Until the year 1905, Central Java, consisting of five regions (gewesten) ie, Semarang, Apex, Kedu, Banyumas, and Pekalongan. Surakarta is still a royal autonomous regions (vorstenland) that stands alone and is comprised of two regions, and Mangkunegaran Kasunanan Surakarta, as Yogyakarta. Gewest each consisting of the districts. Apex Gewest that time also includes Regentschap Tuban and Bojonegoro.

After the enactment Decentralisatie Besluit 1905, gewesten given the autonomy and established the Regional Council. It also formed gemeente (municipality) is autonomous, that is Pekalongan, Tegal, Semarang, Salatiga, and Magelang.

Since the year 1930, the province established as an autonomous region that also has a Provincial Council (Provinciale Raad). Province consists of several residency (residentie), which covers several districts (regentschap), and divided again in a few kawedanan (district). Central Java Province consists of five residency, ie: Pekalongan,-Apex Jepara, Semarang, Banyumas, and Kedu.

Following the independence of Indonesia, in 1946 the government established autonomous regions and Mangkunegaran Kasunanan; and made residency. In the year 1950 through the Law stipulated the establishment of districts and municipalities in Central Java, which covers 29 counties and six municipalities. Determination Act until now celebrated as the Day of Central Java Province, which is dated August 15, 1950.
